About

On the bluffs of the Illinois River, Buffalo Rock State Park stands majestically on the north bank, and affords a magnificent, sweeping view of the Illinois River. The State Park is approximately 3 miles west of Ottawa, Illinois, and has long been a favorite picnic area, as well as a nature lovers' delight. This State Park offers the ideal terrain for the beginner hiker. Mounds representing five earthen sculptures molded from Illinois clay, known as Effigy Tumuli, invite visitors to walk around and explore. Across the road from Buffalo Rock State Park is the I&M Canal State Trail Buffalo Rock Access area. Buffalo Rock State Park is ideal for hiking where you can witness two bison, Holly and Pebbles.
